Nice!

What kind of wood, and how do you keep it from splitting?
What do you mean I can't do that?

just construction grade 1 by on this one. It got pretty thin and I had to just sand where it was. Still got a few tool marks in it. Just wanted to try that method.. It worked although when I tried to use heat to set the grain off it warped a bit. Most bowls I have turned so far are done green and then you need to put em in a box and let em finish drying. Hopefully they don't split. .

Well was going to post some pics of wood lathe tools I have been making but, pics are aparently about 50 pixels wider than this site will allow and while trying to find a way to resize the pics lost the post here. .Sorry but seems either I send real tiny pics or just stop sending updates.

Ok, try this again. I had bought a new wood lathe a while back. Iam really enjoying playing with this when I get the chance. Wanting some carbide gouges to try but, not liking the $100 plus price tag for each one, decided to make a few on my own. Made several shanks up on the metal lathe and mill and now am attempting the handles.on the wood lathe.

Handles are walnut and the finish is "shine juice". The feral on one is a brass plumbing fitting and copper on the other two.
Shanks are epoxied into the handles. Sorry pics are small because the larger ones are 50 pixels wider than this site will allow.

Send me the pix (pfoxyATyahooDOTcom) and I'll resize them.

IRFANVIEW is a free download that will let you resize your pics to any size you like. I can provide details if you want.

I could download and send you the pics. But, Irfanview is a windows program. Me don't do wndows.

Flicker has been squired by smugmug. I don't know what that will mean for photo sharing . I left photobucket because of this. Had lots of pics on PB.

This is probably too green to finish but, I had salvaged it after it had come off the lathe and went ahead and finished it anyway. It has a few cracks, we'll see if it drs down or if it splits.

That's some pretty stuff, Deese. Sure hope it survives the curing process. One of the most aggravating parts of woodworking.

A maple and walnut bowl

Bottom had some cracking in the old plank. Stabilized with thin ca glue. Should hold good.
