This year's landscaping project

Killing two birds with one stone (wall...)

The back yard has a pretty steep slope in one section, enough so that footing is a bit tricky in the winter. Also, my flowerbeds out front are WAY over-crowded and I need to relocate a bunch of stuff.

I've pictured a low terrace/wall in that position for years but never did anything about it because the sheep would've trashed it. Now that I'm sheep-free, I can get away with it.

The wall ends where it does for three reasons.

First, the block was a freebie from Dale the Builder and that's all I had to work with.

Second, the slope is a lot less steep after that point anywhat,

Third, I need a place to be able to back the trailer up to the firewood shed on that end of the house.

Next step is to bring in a shitload of screened loam and back fill the upper side and grade it out. Then there'll be a flowerbed along the wall about 18" wide or so. That big ol' Maple shades it pretty good in the Summer so I'll need to be a little choosy about the plantings.
What do you mean I can't do that?

Yeah, me too...

Ordered loam two days ago, might (might, I say...) see it tomorrow.

5 yards of pretty nice screened loam dumped and raked out. Covered more than I thought it might, another 5 yard load will finish it nicely and leave some to fill a few potholes elsewhere in the back yard. 25 years of being mowed by sheep left a few divots...

Rest of the loam spread and rolled, some of the plants moved from other beds.

Planted a handful of Dahlia corms after the plant above the stepping stone at the bottom of the picture. Euphorbia below the stepping stone, some Purple Coneflower below that.

Haven't decided what to do with the remaining space. Waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before seeding the rest to grass.
